Why Stanton to the Yankees is a good thing for baseball

The National League MVP is on the move. Miami Marlins star outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was reportedly traded to the New York Yankees. The Marlins received Starlin Castro, Jorge Guzman, and Jose Devers. Castro was the starting shortstop for the Yankees just this past year posting up a .300 Avg, 16 HR, and 63 RBI. Guzman is now rated as the Marlins number 3 prospect, while Devers is not in there top 30. Stanton mashed last year as he batted .281 Avg, 59 HR, and 132 RBI. Taking home the NL MVP honors. The Yankees look like the clear winners in the trade here, however, Stanton is owed a whopping $295 million over the next 10 seasons. His contract also includes an opt out after the 2020 season, which allows him to become a free agent. This trade looks more merely like salary dump for the Marlins. New Marlins executive Derek Jeter clearly has decided to change the direction of the franchise towards a rebuild. With Gordon to the Mariners, Ozuna to the Cardinals, and Stanton to the Yankees, the Marlins are looking forward to the future.
Baseball needs a villain. The NBA has the Warriors, NFL the Patriots, NHL the Penguins. All three of these leagues have found major success in the so called "super team". People can say all the want about how much they hate the Warriors, or how much we all despise Brady. But in reality we love it. Not only does this boost ratings, but it creates a competitive factor to each league. Everyone wants to beat the Warriors and Patriots. Baseball doesn't really have that right now. Remember when everyone used to hate the Yankees? Well they were actually likable last year! They were a young team who was built through the farm. They weren't the Yankees of old out bidding teams for there star players. Now that changed. With the addition of Stanton and potentially a guy like Manny Machado, the Yankees are back to being the Villain of baseball. Not to mention they may make a run at Bryce Harper next offseason. The Yankees are loaded with star power and are clearly the team to beat heading into the 2018 season. Baseball deserves a villain and it finally got one. Lots of people will be tuning into Sunday Night Baseball to watch this star loaded team. Villains are only villains because they beat your favorite team. They are greatness. You hate to lose to them, and you especially hate to see them win. That is why you will tune in every single time you can. Baseball won from this trade and it is only going to benefit the league moving forward.Picture Credits: MLB.com
